A multi-part documentary series about three-time Oscar® winning filmmaker Oliver Stone and the making of JFK, his landmark motion picture about the assassination of President John F. Kennedy, is in post-production. Crafted entirely from archival footage, much of which has never before been seen, the documentary is an exploration of acclaimed screenwriter, director, producer Oliver Stone, as seen through the creative process of bringing JFK, his most ambitious and polarizing motion picture, to life.

The documentary details how, from the start of production, Oliver Stone and his cast and crew are confronted by a media blitz unprecedented in the annals of cinema history.  Over the course of the making and release of JFK, Stone, a twice wounded and decorated Vietnam Veteran, wages a battle against the main-stream-media to defend his integrity and counter the constant attacks that threaten to derail his film.   JFK would go on to gross over two hundred eighty million dollars at the global box office, win multiple Academy Awards®, and in 1992, inspire Congress to pass legislation on The JFK Assassination Records Collection Act; which was tasked with opening all remaining classified documents in connection to the assassination by 1997.  As of today, a number of those files remained sealed.

While the film could not be erased from existence, it could be marginalized, and the campaign against JFK tarnished Oliver Stone’s reputation in the United States and forever altered the trajectory of his career.  Citizen Stone peels back the layers of where Hollywood, the media, and Washington intersect and highlights the unholy alliance between fact and fiction and the fight for who “owns” history.

The filmmakers were given access to Oliver Stone’s archives and he has made himself available to Fraga for clarifications. Otherwise he is not involved in the making of this film.

“It’s interesting to see how Oliver Stone pivoted post JFK into an artist who now straddles the worlds of a dramatist and documentarian.” said Fraga, “From pictures ranging from Any Given Sunday, W., to Snowden and documentaries about controversial figures like Fidel Castro and Vladimir Putin, he’s still out there fighting and clawing to make personal films about important subjects. Unfortunately, as JFK proved, that dedication comes at a price.”

Citizen Stone is about the making of an epic motion picture and the unmaking of one of cinema’s legendary directors.

Citizen Stone hails from Sirk Productions writer/director Kristian Fraga,  Academy Award® Winning producer John Battsek for Ventureland, and Emmy Award® Winning producer Marc Perez also producing for Sirk.
